The Doors Release Documentary, Unreleased Song

Rock band The Doors premiered their documentary on Friday at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood in front of a full house, according to Rolling Stone.

The DVD Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman is about the band’s third album, L.A. Woman, which was released in 1971.

The group also released a 40th anniversary CD re-issue of their final album with Jim Morrison who left the band for Paris in 1971 and never returned.  The two-disc set includes an unreleased song, “She Smells So Nice/Rock Me,” that was discovered by album co-producer Bruce Botnick while reviewing the L.A. Woman session tapes, according to Passion Weiss.  The sultry track is a unique gem on the album.

Formed in 1965, The Doors originated in California and were a hit in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.  They have reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 single chart and have sold millions of copies of their albums.  The band lost Morrison in 1971, when he left for Paris and was found dead in an apartment bathtub by his girlfriend that same year.  No autopsy was performed and the death was unknown.  Morrison joined the infamous 27 Club with other famous musicians who had died at the age of 27.

Keyboards and vocalist Ray Manzarek told Rolling Stone that he hopes to reconcile with the other band mates, which have all been disconnected over lawsuits and petty differences.

The three managed to come together on the RE:GENERATION project when they worked with Skrillex to create a track called “Breakin’ A Sweat.”  The drummer who remains absent in the documentary, John Densmore, recorded his percussion separately from Manzarek and guitarist and vocalist Robby Krieger.

The documentary, which is available on Blu-Ray and DVD, and the two-disc album are set to be released on Jan. 24. Pre-orders and information on the two items can be found at The Doors website.
