Two months ago, Nicki Minaj promised the public exciting news: to anticipate the release of her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, as a Valentine’s Day gift to her beloved fans. However, Minaj has decided that she’ll be releasing her gift belatedly.
And she picked the perfect timing to break the news. Minaj announced via Twitter the delay of her album an hour after the premiere of her newest single “Stupid Hoe” video, on Friday.
Her tweet read, “New Album Date: April 3rd. Pink Friday: ROMAN RELOADED. But have no fear. Tons of surprises before then ;). Love Always, HB.”
Minaj made a wise decision to hold off the announcement. Expectedly, fans were not happy with the postponement, but the “Stupid Hoe” video was enough to keep them busy for the moment.
Directed by Hype Williams, Minaj encompasses the complete Barbie look with bright makeup, prosthetic body parts, and of course, her unforgettable pink wig. She even dances in an undersized cage where she later transforms into a tiger. The eye-popping special effects of the video are so interesting that one might overlook “that the track throws a few harsh words at her female critics, most notably Lil’ Kim,” according to MTV News.
When the song first aired in December, the lyrics raised questions about the possibility that she might perform at Super Bowl XLVI, and her video answers those questions. When she raps, “2012 I’m at the Super Bowl,” the video cuts to a sign reading “2012 Super Bowl,” hinting that she’ll probably be performing with Madonna.
Her Barbz will be equally impressed when Minaj releases the album’s second video for “Roman in Moscow.” Minaj said it will set the stage for the highly anticipated album.
“When I say it’s a teaser, it’s like a trailer to the movie, it’s like setting the stage, and I just wanted to touch the surface. It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.”
