By Matt Brody, Staff Writer matt@livemusicguide.com The doctor is in the building: Dr. Dre is finally releasing something new. Not music. Cognac. His new brand, Aftermath Cognac, is set to ship out to liquor stores around the beginning of October. So keep your eyes peeled. Abecassis Cognac will be the producer of the alcohol. Along with the cognac they will also release a new sparkling vodka, which will be 80-proof and will come both flavored and unflavored. Originally the cognac and vodka were supposed to come out at the same time as Dr. Dre’s album Detox, but we all know how that’s going. Dre first disclosed information about his joint business project with Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records back in 2008. It only took them two years; that’s pretty quick in Dre Years. For all we know, though, Abecassis could have had the liquor ready a couple years ago and could have holding it because they truly thought Detox would be out by now. It’s been over a decade since Dre's last album, 2001, hit stores. Since then there has been a huge amount of buzz about his third album, with the release date being pushed back several times. According to Eminem and 50 Cent, Dr. Dre supposedly has about a dozen finished tracks for the album. It’s come to the point where he’s either got to release the album, which he claims will be his last, or just come out and say he has no intentions of finishing the project. It almost seems as if he’s doing everything but releasing new music. His headphone brand Beats by Dr. Dre has been successful, he’s been in a few commercials for Dr. Pepper (you can hear a snippet of a song from Detox), had roles in the movies The Wash and Training Day, and even plans on producing some scary movies and dark comedies for Crucial Films. Dre also recently made an appearance on Eminem and Jay-Z’s Home and Home Tour. In the middle of his Detroit performance he said to the crowd, “I’m coming.” Well Dre…we’re waiting.
