A$AP Rocky, fun., Walk the Moon and Wallpaper were the first acts announced to perform at this year’s mtvU Woodie Awards Festival in Austin, Texas.
2012 marks the first year that the college branch of MTV is holding a festival in allegiance with their annual awards, the mtvU Woodies.
The festival and awards are held during the middle of the Austin’s famous festival, South by Southwest (SXSW). Kicking off at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 15 and will lead up to the Woodies Awards, starting at 8 p.m. that night.
Tickets are available to all SXSW badge holders, but people others will still have a chance to enjoy the fun. The highlights from the day will air Sunday, March 18 on MTV and mtvU at 8 p.m.
All four of the performers are nominated for the Breaking Woodie, along with other up and coming artists such as Azealia Banks, Lana Del Rey, Machine Gun Kelly and the tUnE-yArDs.

Other categories include Woodie of the Year, Best Woodie Video, Performing Woodie and EDM Effect Woodie. Kanye West and Jay-Z, The Black Keys, Skrillex, J. Cole, Frank Ocean and Mac Miller lead the field with multiple nominations, including Woodie of the Year.
fun., made up of The Format’s Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost of Anathallo and Steel Train’s Jack Antonoff. The pop/folk/theatrical group have gained significant recognition this year with their track “We are Young” featuring gospel/soul princess Janelle Monae. The track was covered by Glee and featured in a Chevy Sonic commercial. The band’s second album, Some Nights, drops Feb. 21.
On the other side of the spectrum, rapper A$AP Rocky spent last fall touring with Drake and gaining favor across the pond with a BBC Sound nomination. He released LiveLoveA$AP in October, featuring the hits “Purple Swag” and “Peso.”
Voting closes on March 9 in all categories except for the Breaking Woodie, which will remain open until March 15.
