Hey Monday Announce Hiatus

Fans of pop band Hey Monday may have to wait a while for new music. Vocalist Cassadee Pope recently issued a statement stating announcing that the group is taking a break.

Whispers of a possible split have been buzzing since the singer announced a solo acoustic tour starting in the new year earlier this month. This caused Pope to address the rumors on her Facebook.

“I wanted to let you all know that Hey Monday is not ‘broken up.’ We are, however, taking a break and pursuing things on our own,” said Pope. “In my case, that is a solo project. I hope you all understand that this does not mean we'll never release new music or tour ever again.”

In addition to Pope, Hey Monday consists of guitarists Mike Gentile and Alex Lipshaw and drummer Patrick McKenzie. The pop band released its debut and only full-length album, Hold On Tight, in 2008 and earlier this month released a Christmas EP.

Pope further explained that there is no bad blood between the group and that the decision was amicable.

“Me and the guys are still friends and always will be, and this was a decision we all agreed was for the best,” stated Pope. “I could not have imagined experiencing everything we were able to with a different group of people, our crew included!”

Fans responded to Pope’s statement with mixed feelings, stating their support for the singer and other band members and some disappointment and fear that the hiatus may become permanent.

“Seeing as though that Hey Monday as a band only has one studio album, and is already on a ‘break’ this is quite the disappointment,” commented fan Andrew O’Connor. “Just like I believe we will never see another FOB album, I guess now I don’t think we will ever see another Hey Monday album.”

“I don't know if I cry or laugh. really, I don't know if I'll handle this solo thing... I love you all but it's kinda hard,” added Isabela Costa.

In addition to Pope’s solo career, Gentile tweeted that he’s been working on new music with Eddie Castineria (guitarist of pop-rock band The Ever After) for a new band. Shortly after Pope’s Facebook update, Gentile took to Tumblr to explain his new project.

“Hey Monday is still a band. The band is not broken up, however we are currently focusing on other aspects of our musical expression. As you all know, Cassadee is pursuing a solo endeavor…In lieu of this down time, I am pursuing new music; playing and writing with a new band. This will be my main focus. I’m extremely excited about this, and am looking forward to releasing information about my new band very soon.”
