Chairlift To Release New Album and Kickoff World Tour

After recording for over a year between New York and London, Chairlift will release their sophomore album Something on Colombia records on Tuesday.

This electropop duo, interestingly categorized as flamenco, industrial and Japanese classic music, will open their tour at the Bowery Ballroom in New York tomorrow night.

For Something, Polachek and Wimberly combined talents with Dan Carey, who worked with Franz Ferdinand.  Two songs were mixed by Alan Moulder, who has worked with My Bloody Valentine.

The duo was once a trio.  Singer and keyboardist Caroline Polacheck founded the group out of Boulder, Colorado in 2005 with Aaron Pfenning, who played guitar and synth, and contributed vocals.

The two moved to New York in 2006, and by 2007 Patrick Wimberly joined the band on base and drums.  The trio self-released an EP, Daylight Savings, in June that year.

In 2008, the band released their debut, Does You Inspire You.  Their publicity widened when their song Bruised was used in a iPod Nano ad and their video for song “Evident Utensil” was nominated for a “Breakthrough” at the MTV Video Music Awards.

After their debut, Pfenning left Chairlift to pursue his own solo career with a project titled Rewards.

“Evident Utensil,” featuring a remix by MGMT, was released on 7” vinyl via Kanine Records.

In 2011, the talented multi-instrumentalist Patrick Wimberly produced the full-length album Relax as a member of Das Racist.
