The Black Keys unveiled the music video for the single “Gold On The Ceiling” on MTV Monday night.
The video debuted during the MTV special “MTV First: The Black Keys,” and was followed by an interview with Keys frontmen Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney in which they answered questions submitted by fans via Twitter.
The interview following the video premiere was filmed before a sold-out show in Berlin, Germany last week.
Auerbach and Carney talked with MTV about rock music in general as well as the rise of the Black Keys from a struggling, up-and-coming band from Akron, Ohio, to iconic rock n’ roll superstars.
The “Gold On The Ceiling” video is a nod to the roots of The Black Keys. It centers around only the members of the band and their music in a filmed, live performance.
The video highlights the fact that The Black Keys are, first and foremost, a rock band that prides itself on live performances.
The video comes after the December release of El Camino, the band’s seventh studio album. In the US, the album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and sold 206,000 copies in only the first week of release.
The album’s first single, “Lonely Boy,” was released in October. The popular, one-shot video for “Lonely Boy” that featured a lip-syncing man has a much different feel than the simplistic style of “Gold On The Ceiling.”
The video for “Gold On The Ceiling” comes after an announcement of a world tour with stops in London, Philadelphia, and two shows in New York City at Madison Square Garden (both of which sold out in 15 minutes).
