Thom Yorke has revealed that Radiohead has plans to tour in 2012, according to Pitchfork on September 21.
“The idea is to go out and play next year on and off during the year,” Yorke said while co-hosting a BBC Radio 1 show with Gilles Peterson, where the two played music including the Jamie xx remix of Radiohead’s “Bloom.”
He also announced that he is nearly finished working on an album with Atoms For Peace, which is his other band with producer Nigel Godrich and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, said Pitchfork.
The group played a few concerts last year—such as a set at the 2010 Coachella music festival—which Yorke described as an experience that “sparked something off, it was really exciting…It had really good energy,” according to the Vancouver Sun.
Radiohead is currently scheduled to play two shows at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on September 28 and 29, who last headlined the venue in 2001, said JamBands.com.
The band will be in town performing on “Saturday Night Live” on September 24, as well as a special hour-long episode of “The Colbert Report” on September 26, according to CBS News.
“I look forward to meeting the Radioheads and leveraging their anti-corporate indie cred to raise brand awareness for my sponsors,” Stephen Colbert said in a statement.
Radiohead is set to play four songs, including their new and unreleased track, “The Daily Mail,” according to NWI.com.
The group was most recently rumored to be headlining next year’s Coachella along with No Doubt, said the HITS Daily Double.
“And though rock record revenues have diminished, the concert business, led by acts with multi-decade careers playing arenas and stadiums, has held steady and in some cases has actually increased,” the publication wrote. “The same is true with high-profile festivals like Coachella, which has locked in No Doubt and Radiohead as two of next year’s headliners.”
Radiohead released their eighth studio album, The King of Limbs, on February 18.
