Train to Tour San Francisco

Pop rock band Train will return to the city where it formed for a tour in April, the group announced Tuesday.

“San Francisco, we’re coming home!” a post on the band’s website read.

The band will tour in order to promote their upcoming album, California 37.

California 37 will be released April 17, and Train will tour the city for the week beforehand. The band will play venues like the Fillmore and the Great American Music Hall.

The album was recorded in San Francisco and Los Angeles, but most of the writing occurred while the group was touring for Save Me, San Francisco, according to a Billboard article.

"I didn't spend 3 months or 5 months writing, I just wrote throughout the course of the last 3 years," vocalist Patrick Monahan told Billboard. "We have 13 songs that we've recorded and I want to hear every single one of them over and over again."

Train formed in San Francisco in 1994. Current members include Monahan, guitarist and singer Jimmy Stafford and percussionist Scott Underwood.

The band has released five studio albums, the most recent of which hit number 17 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The record, called Save Me, San Francisco, was the band’s comeback from a three-year hiatus. The singles “Hey, Soul Sister,” “If It’s Love” and “Marry Me” have enjoyed widespread radio play.

Califonia 37’s title could be a reference to a state highway that runs 21 miles and connects the four counties of California’s North Bay Area.

The album’s first single, “Drive By,” was released in January. The video for the single hit YouTube on Feb. 15.

The six dates of the San Francisco 2012 Tour are as listed below. Ticket information will be released soon, according to Train’s website.
